SloweStudio Ceramics
My work is primarily functional thrown pottery for use around the home and the occasional one-off large hand-built vessel. I use stoneware or earthenware clay depending on the nature of the object required. Each pot is unique due to the nature of the traditional skills required, and no two pieces are ever quite alike.
The first images are examples of the type of work I was producing up to December 2018, an earthenware historical style based on Anglo Saxon and Medieval forms. I love the simplicity of the bare exterior ceramic combined with the result of allowing the glaze to trail at will. Order and chaos at work!

Stoneware pieces were created at the Thomas-Ross Pottery in Brunswick Village, just north of Newcastle Upon Tyne, an open access pottery studio run by Glyn Thomas, a skilled potter who was head of art for over 30 years at Kenton High School in Newcastle. He’s an excellent mentor to anyone taking up the craft, and will tell you in his bluff, no nonsense Yorkshire way exactly what you need to know to progress. There’s a news article from the Chronicle about him from 2018, including a short video of him throwing a pot.
